It would be incredibly easy, after all, to pick five lots that make it look like the watch-auction market is stronger than ever. It would also be easy to highlight five lots that make it look like the sky is falling. The truth is, of course, somewhere in the middle. The entire watch is an exercise in balancing classicism and modernity, and it does so to great effect. There's no better object to illustrate those ideas than a watch (or in this case, watches plural). But Coppola's script – she wrote the film in addition to directing it – didn't always specify the exact make of the watches. For that, she needed a prop master.
